In Axial Shift, managing your team efficiently requires a clear understanding of jobs, roles, and how they interact within the platform. This article will guide you through these concepts and show you how to attach roles to jobs.
What is a Job in Axial Shift?
A job represents the position or function an employee holds at your location. Examples include:
Server
Cashier
Manager
Cook
Barista
Jobs are specific to each location and help organize employees according to their responsibilities.
What is a Role in Axial Shift?
A role defines the permissions associated with a job. It determines what an employee can see and do within the platform. For example:
Employee Role – Can view schedules, claim shifts, and clock in/out.
Manager Role – Can create challenges, view reports, approve time-off requests, and manage team schedules.
Admin Role – Full access to all locations, reports, and system settings.
Roles are crucial for controlling access and ensuring team members only see what’s relevant to their responsibilities.
How Jobs and Roles Work Together
Every employee must have a job and a role attached to their profile. The job represents “what they do,” and the role represents “what they can do in Axial Shift.”
Example: A manager at a coffee shop may have the Manager job with a Manager role attached, allowing them to manage employees and create challenges. Meanwhile, a barista would have the Barista job with an Employee role, limiting their access to only shift-related features.
Attaching Roles to Jobs
Follow these steps to attach a role to a job:
Log in to Axial Shift as an Admin or Manager with the necessary permissions.
Navigate to Settings → Jobs.
Select the job you want to update.
Select the appropriate role for this job (Employee, Manager, Admin, or custom role).
Save your changes.
Once a role is attached to a job, any employee assigned to that job will automatically inherit the permissions of that role.
By understanding the distinction between jobs and roles, and knowing how to attach them properly, your team will have clear responsibilities and access in Axial Shift.
